Description of Services: Hospital inpatient acquired brain injury rehabilitation program * goal is to help patients recover as fully as possible and reintegrate into the community

Rehabilitative Stream Program
- Patients participate in at least 3 hours of therapy/activity per day for 5 days per week * patients' rehabilitation goals include transition to community * average length of stay is 64 days

Restorative Stream Program - Patients participate in at least 1 hour of therapy per day for 5 days per week * patients' rehabilitation goals include transition to community * average length of stay is 128 days

Service is for Individuals Who: require rehabilitation following an acquired brain injury

Average Length of Stay: Rehabilitation Stream: 64 days * Restorative Stream: 128 days
Admission Criteria
Medical Stability: Must be medically stable
Age Range: 3 months to 18 years
Diagnosis: traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries, anoxic brain injuries, brain tumours, arterio venous malformation (AVM), stroke, post central nervous system infection
Participation: expected participation in a school program and/or therapeutic playroom activities
Function: Restorative Stream: patient is able to tolerate at least 1 hour out of bed, twice a day * must have attention and responsiveness for a minimum of 30 minute session, twice a day
Patient Goals: defined rehabilitation goals include transition to community
Other: must be off tube feeds and central lines for at least 4 hours a day in order to participate in rehab
Exclusion Criteria
Medical: ventilator dependent
Behaviour: danger to themselves or others
Other: drug or alcohol dependency
