Description of Services: The COPD Education Clinic focuses on the management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) as well as other chronic lung diseases. Patients are taught about the pathophysiology of their lung disease, self-management strategies, and ways to optimize their physical well-being. The clinic conducts a variety of tests to assess and monitor pulmonary function and functional ability. For patients who continue to smoke, ongoing visits are offered to counsel on smoking cessation


Helps patients understand:
  • how COPD affects lungs
  • medication information and why, when and how to take them
  • what causes a COPD “flare up” and how to avoid one
  • when to seek medical attention


NOTE: This is a virtual clinic. Patients can attend from the comfort of home, using their telephone, smart phone or computer

Admission Criteria
Diagnosis: COPD * asthma * pulmonary fibrosis * pulmonary hypertension * alpha 1-anti-trypsin deficiency * sarcoidosis * scleroderma * any chronic disease that causes respiratory impairment leading to deconditioning
Other: must be smoke-free for three months in order to attend clinic
Exclusion Criteria
Other: patients with unstable medical conditions
